POWERSOFT CASE STUDY – ‘MAINS TO ACOUSTIC EFFICIENCY’

Claudio Lastrucci, co-founder of Powersoft, is set to present a case study entitled ‘Mains to Acoustic Efficiency’ at the AES International Convention

Florence (Italy), 17th May 2018

Claudio Lastrucci, co-founder of Powersoft – a world-leading manufacturer of professional power amplifiers – is set to present a case study entitled ‘Mains to Acoustic Efficiency’ at the Audio Engineering Society (AES) International Convention, Europe’s premier professional audio technology and networking event (Milan, Italy, 23 – 26 May 2018. With its ‘Power of Sound’ theme inspired by Italy’s rich heritage of innovation, Lastrucci will be sharing key insights to all attendees during two sessions which are set to be a highlight of this year’s AES programme.

The event, which alternates between a US and European location each year and is in its 144th edition, will this year take place at the NH Hotel Milano Congress Centre. Lastrucci will explore powering subwoofer cabinets at high levels, taking to Arena 1 on Friday 25 May at 12.30pm for the Audio Applications Forum Session (AAF02), then at 4pm on the same day for the Professional Sound Expo Session (PSE14) in the PSE Stage.

In both sessions, Lastrucci will present a case study demonstrating how the power requirements to feed a subwoofer are defined. Standardised and program audio signals will be applied and results directly measured on real devices. Measurements on true power input, true power output, and overall efficiency in the amplification chain will be addressed including different amplification topologies. This will reveal surprisingly high overall mains input to acoustic output chain efficiency in the specific, usable, passband of the speaker.

Claudio Lastrucci co-founded Powersoft S.p.A in 1995 in Florence, Italy, and acts as research and development director for the professional amplifier manufacturer. In this role he works across power electronic, audio amplification signal processing, applied mechanics, acoustic and transducer design. With an Italian Laurea in Electronic Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering at Florence University, he is widely recognised as a thought-leader and innovator in the professional audio world.

Comments Lastrucci ahead of his presentation: “As an Italian audio manufacturer it is wonderful to welcome to the AES Convention to Milan for its European outing this year. Our home country is known globally for its technology and manufacturing prowess, rooted in a culture of invention and innovation which is evident way back in history.”

“The AES convention is a key date for us every year, I look forward to sharing our knowledge and expertise with our peers at the event, and meeting with industry colleagues old and new to share ideas and insights on the latest pro-audio industry developments,” adds Lastrucci.

As the world leader in lightweight, compact, high power and efficiency power amplifiers, Powersoft is behind some major industry breakthroughs in professional amplification: the Italian manufacturer was the first to introduce technologies such as pulse width modulation (PWM) and power factor correction (PFC). Powersoft was also the first company to develop amplifier modules for active speakers, which led to the patented differential pressure control (DPC), and is recognised by the industry for the revolutionary approach it took on transducer technology for subwoofers with M-Force, a moving magnet linear motor.

As sponsors of the Milan event, Powersoft recognises the AES Conventions as key gatherings for those operating in the professional audio market. Lastrucci’s engagement at AES Milan follows his successful participation at last year’s AES New York, where he joined a panel in the Product Development track which explored a unified way to specify loudspeaker and amplifier power ratings.
